Position Title: Youth Care Assistant

Status: Full Time- Limited contract
Location: Children’s Village Programme-Bethlehem

Child Safeguarding Commitment:
SOS Children’s Villages works with children’s and youth. Mission of the Position:
The Youth Assistant supports the Youth Coordinator in implementing youth care activities and ensuring the well-being and development of young people in SOS care, as well as those supported through DFE (Direct Family Empowerment) and CFE (Community Family Empowerment) programmes. The role contributes to preparing youth for independent living by providing guidance, supervision, and practical support in their daily lives, while promoting a safe and empowering environment aligned with SOS policies and standards.
The Youth Assistant works under the direct supervision of the Youth Coordinator and collaborates closely with youth care staff and other programme units, including DFE and CFE units.

Main clients:
• Referred children/young people
• Youth care coworkers, SOS parents, SFC Coordinator, Child development co-workers, CV Programme Senior Manager.
• External stakeholders (schools/educational institutions, employers, doctors, therapists, state authorities etc.)
• Biological/extended families.

Key Performance Areas and Main Responsibilities
Support to Youth Care Implementation:
• Assist in the daily supervision and follow-up of youth in care houses.
• Support the implementation of individual development plans (IDPs) for youth.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to youth in their transition to independence.
• Monitor youth attendance in education, training, and employment activities.
• Support the organization of life skills and empowerment activities.

Administrative and Reporting Support:
• Assist in maintaining accurate records and documentation (including PDB2 updates).
• Support the preparation of periodic reports as required by the Youth Coordinator.
• Help track attendance, participation, and progress of youth in programmes and projects.
• Assist in logistical arrangements for meetings, trainings, and activities.

Programme and Project Support:
• Support coordination and follow-up of project activities at field level.
• Assist in communication with beneficiaries and ensure their engagement.
• Help collect feedback from participants and report it to the Youth Coordinator.
• Support data collection, documentation, and reporting for project activities.
• Assist in coordinating with internal units and external partners when needed.

Youth Engagement and Development:
• Build positive relationships with youth and act as a supportive role model.
• Encourage youth participation in decision-making processes and activities.
• Support the Youth Council activities and initiatives.
• Promote inclusion, participation, and empowerment of all youth.

Fulfilling Administrative Duties:
• Support administrative tasks related to youth care units (e.g., YF1, YF2).
• Adhere to SOS policies, procedures, and ethical standards.
• Maintain confidentiality of all youth-related information.
• Participate in team meetings and contribute to programme planning when required.

Safeguarding Commitment
• Responsible within own area of work to raise awareness of the SOS Child and Youth Safeguarding Policy, Anti-Corruption Regulation, Code of Conduct principles and to prevent and protect children from all forms of abuse, abandonment, exploitation, violence and discrimination
• Responsible to report any CS suspicion, concern, allegation or incident immediately, following Child Safeguarding reporting procedures. CS reports should be made to the IOR CS focal person and/or to the respective line manager.
• Responsible for reporting/managing, mitigating or escalating conflicts of interest to the next hierarchical level.
• Responsible for individual responsibilities under the articles 19.1 and 19.2 of Anti-corruption regulation.

Qualifications and Competencies for the position:
Must Criteria
• Bachelor’s degree in counselling, Social Work, Mental Health, Education, or any related field.
• At least 2–3 years of experience working directly with children, youth, caregivers, or survivors of violence.
• Ability to write clear and professional reports in both Arabic and English.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Strong organizational and time management skills, with a keen attention to detail.

Competencies – knowledge, skills, abilities
• Good knowledge of child, youth, and family development.
• Good understanding of national childcare legislation and child rights frameworks.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and active listening skills (written and verbal).
• High level of empathy and emotional intelligence, especially when working with adolescents and young people.
• Knowledge of key adolescent-related topics (e.g., relationships, sexual and reproductive health, HIV/AIDS awareness).
• Ability to work effectively under pressure in a busy and dynamic environment.
• High level of personal responsibility, professionalism, and integrity.
• Good understanding of local culture, context, and community dynamics.
• Proficiency in ICT, including Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to present information clearly and professionally in both individual and group settings.
• Very good command of English, particularly in speaking and listening (conversational proficiency).

Preferred Additional Criteria
• Previous experience working with NGOs, preferably in child protection, youth development, or alternative care programmes.
• Experience in implementing or supporting youth empowerment, life skills, or employability programmes.
• Ability to facilitate trainings, workshops, or group activities for youth.
• Experience in project support, including data collection, reporting, and coordination with stakeholders..
• Familiarity with digital tools or systems used for data management (e.g., databases similar to PDB2).
