Summary:
Bethlehem Fair Trade Artisans (BFTA) is seeking a highly creative and experienced Lead Designer & Training Coordinator to lead the design direction of its sustainable packaging FabLab project.

The Lead Designer will be responsible for developing design concepts, supporting in creating training curriculum, coordinating with the external contracted consultants regarding product development and designs, and support in guiding artisans and producers in adopting innovative, market-oriented, and sustainable design practices. The position plays a key role in translating design into practical production while building long term skills within the artisan community.

Responsibilities:
Lead the overall design vision and creative direction of the FabLab project.
Develop innovative and sustainable packaging and product design concepts tailored to handicraft sectors.
Design and develop a structured training curriculum for artisans, youth, and producers.
Assist in delivering hands-on training sessions and workshops on design, product development, and packaging innovation.
Support in prepare training materials, manuals, and visual guides to support learning and knowledge transfer.
Work closely with artisans to co-create designs that are market driven and production ready.
Work closely and collaboratively with the 2 external consultants contracted under the project for the purpose of supporting the product development, introducing innovation as well as marketing strategies of the FabLab.
Supervise and guide the prototyping process in collaboration with the FabLab Technician.
Ensure designs are cost-effective, scalable, and aligned with export market requirements.
Integrate branding, storytelling, and cultural identity into product and packaging designs.
Provide mentorship and ongoing support to trained producers and participants.
Stay updated on global design trends, especially in sustainable packaging and fair trade products.
Collaborate with procurement to source appropriate materials for design and prototyping.
Document design outputs, training outcomes, and lessons learned for reporting purposes.
Support showcasing of products and participation in exhibitions or presentations.
Perform any other duties as assigned by the Project Manager.

Job Requirements:

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Product Design, Industrial Design, Graphic Design, or a related field.
Minimum 2-3 years of experience in design, preferably with a focus on product or packaging design.
Proven experience in training, facilitation, or curriculum development.
Strong portfolio demonstrating both creative and practical design work.
Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working with artisans, cooperatives, or handicraft sectors.
Experience in sustainable or eco-friendly design.
Familiarity with FabLab tools and prototyping processes is an advantage.
Skills & Competencies:

Strong leadership and creative direction skills.
Ability to translate design concepts into practical, producible solutions.
Excellent training, facilitation, and communication skills.
Strong organizational and curriculum development skills.
Proficiency in design software (Adobe Creative Suite or similar).
Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups (artisans, youth, technical teams).
