Antibiotic Rational Use Training
Background:
Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) is a UK-registered charity that has been reaching out to the Palestinian communities, striving to deliver health and medical care to those worst affected by conflict, occupation, and displacement. MAP provides immediate medical aid to those in need at times of crisis, while also developing local capacity and skills to ensure the long-term development of the Palestinian healthcare system. MAP’s vision is of a future in which all Palestinians can access an effective, sustainable, and locally led system of healthcare and the full realization of their rights to health and dignity.
In partnership with Al-Makassed neonatal unit, MAP is working to support neonatal care in the West Bank (WB). Our goal is to ensure that the youngest and most vulnerable residents receive the best possible care and medical support during their first weeks of life. We are enhancing the capacities of neonatal medical teams through training sessions and fellowship opportunities, enabling them to provide the necessary care for newborns. Therefore, MAP plans to conduct two training workshops on infection prevention and the rational use of antibiotics, targeting neonatal unit teams in the southern areas of the West Bank. These workshops aim to enhance their capacity in implementing infection prevention and control measures tailored to the NICU environment.
The training will address IPC evidence-based knowledge, skills, and practices. This training will contribute to improving neonatal outcomes and promoting the well-being of the most vulnerable members of our population.
2-Objective:
MAP seeks two experienced infectious disease specialists to deliver comprehensive training workshops on infection prevention and control and rational antibiotic use within NICUs. Each workshop is planned for two days and target 20-25 participants from eight hospitals from the southern area of the WB.
The training will cover both practical and theoretical aspects, including but not limited to neonatal colonization, asepsis and disinfection in the NICU, antibiotic stewardship in neonates, safe injection practices in the NICU, infant isolation, and strategies to reduce the transmission of infections from healthcare personnel to newborn babies.
3- Scope of work:
Prepare and organize course materials including presentations, handouts, and pre-posttests in Arabic in coordination with our MEAL officers.
Share the training materials, pre and post-tests, and presentations with MAP before delivering the training courses.
Deliver two training workshops/two days each workshop on IPC and antibiotic stewardship in neonates
