الوصف الوظيفي:Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) is a UK-registered cahrirty working to promote the health and dignity of Palestinians affected by conflict, occupation, and displacement. MAP supports both immediate and humanitarian responses and long-term efforts to strenghen the Palestinian healthcare system.
As part of MAP's mental ealth project, and in close partnership with the Palestinian Ministry of Health (MoH), this advertisment is issued for the recruitment of a psychiatrist to serve at Betlahem Psychiatric Hospital.
This initiative is designed to strengthen psychiatric human resources, improve access to quality mental health services, and contribute to the sustainability of Palestine's national mental health system. This recruitment is also expected to provide measurable contributions to patient care coverage and to the develpment of future psychiatric professionals in Palestine.
Objectives
The psychiatrist will:
Provide high-quality psychiatric care to inpatients and outpatients at Bethlehem Psychiatric Hospital.
Support MoH efforts to address the shortage of psychiatrists in Palestine by ensuring full-time service presence for 12 months.
Contribute to a multidisciplinary team in managing patients with severe and complex psychiatric conditions through participation in daily ward rounds
Promote ethical, evidence-based psychiatric practice in line with MoH clinical guidelines and policies, ensuring 100% compliance in documentation and prescribing audits.
Scope of Work
The psychiatrist will be responsible for:
Conducting psychiatric assessments, diagnosis, and treatment for patients.
Delivering inpatient and outpatient care, including psychopharmacological management and psychotherapeutic interventions.
Participating in ward rounds, case discussions, and on-call rosters as assigned by the hospital.
Provide full-time service at Bethlehem Psychiatric Hospital according to MOH requirements (ABC shifts).
Contributing to multidisciplinary care plans, including collaboration with nurses, psychologists, social workers, and occupational therapists.
Maintaining accurate medical records in compliance with MoH standards.
Upholding safeguarding principles, patient confidentiality, and ethical medical practice.
Supporting institutional development through supervision and mentorship of psychiatry residents, medical students, or junior staff.
Reporting and Supervision
The psychiatrist will be line-managed by the Medical Director of Bethlehem Psychiatric Hospital for day-to-day clinical duties. MAP will serve as the contracting authority responsible for contract oversight, salary payment, and performance monitoring, while MoH will provide professional supervision and HR management.
The Psychiatrist will submit monthly reports signed by the medical director at Bethlehem Psychiatrist Hospital on patient numbers, types of interventions, and progress indicators.
The Psychiatrist will document success stories and challenges to inform program development.

Mandatory requirements:
Completed an accredited psychiatry residency recognized by the Palestinian Medical Council and/or MoH.
Licensed to practice medicine in Palestine.
Board-certified or board-eligible in Psychiatry (Palestinian Medical Council or other MoH-recognized board).
Demonstrated clinical competence in inpatient and community psychiatry.
Ethical Considerations
The psychiatrist must adhere to MAP policies and ethical guidelines, including MAP’s safeguarding policy and code of conduct.
The selected consultant will be required to sign MAP’s consultant contract and undergo safeguarding induction before starting the assignment.
Proficiency in Arabic (spoken and written). Working proficiency in English is an asset.
Commitment to ethical practice, safeguarding, and adherence to MoH policies and national clinical guidelines.
Strengthen the next generation of psychiatric professionals through at least 12 structured supervision/mentorship sessions annually with residents, students, or junior staff.
