Social Workers for Peer Counselling activities

Project Title: IN.P.U.T. – Inclusion, Protection and promotion of hUman righTs for safeguarding vulnerable children, including children with disabilities, in East Jerusalem (AID 12273.01.1_01.2)

Implementing Organization: EducAid

EducAid is an International Non-Governmental Organization established in Italy in March 2000 and recognized by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It supports Persons with Disabilities in various countries, including the Occupied Palestinian Territories, through interaction with associations, social enterprises and enthusiastic individuals ethically involved in the educational and social work. Its mission is to prevent and reduce the disadvantages and obstacles of individuals with disabilities or those who live in social and cultural difficulties. Additionally, EducAid seeks to build the capacity of the individuals and institutions in terms of education through different means but most notably through building an educational system where all the resources present in the community coverage to avoid entrusting education. Furthermore, EducAid aims to ensure the ultimate respect of Human Rights, in particular the rights of children, Persons with Disabilities, minority groups and to encourage policies oriented to gender equality.

Duty Station: East Jerusalem

Type of Contract: Short-term consultancy contract (8 months), part-time

Expected Start Date: July 2025

Context and Objective:

EducAid is seeking qualified Social Workers to be trained and engaged in the implementation of peer counselling services for children with disabilities (CwD) and their families in East Jerusalem. This activity is part of a broader humanitarian protection programme funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS). The social workers will participate in an intensive training programme on peer counselling and will be directly involved in its delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

Participate in a 5-day residential training on peer counselling methods (conducted by international trainers with lived experience of disability).
Address the beneficiary's physical, emotional, economic and educational challenges by making individual meetings, initial assessments, and/or home visits or by recommending other data collection resources.
Collaborate with trained peer counsellors to plan and deliver individual, group, and family peer support sessions to evaluate the level of autonomy and independency and other related issues for each beneficiary in order to submit an individualized intervention plan accordingly.
Identify protection and psychosocial needs of children with disabilities and conduct referral to specialized services.
Prepare a complete profile for each prospective beneficiary alongside determination the support that is required to help the PwDs to achieve goals
The Social Worker is in charge of following up with PwD to make sure that their situation has improved in terms of autonomy, independency, awareness and well-being.
Facilitate awareness on rights and social inclusion of CwD within targeted communities.
Contribute to monitoring and reporting through pre/post assessments, session reports, and coordination meetings with the local project team.
Support and facilitate the completion of regular reports and keep a diary of current and future activities
Ensure that accurate and sufficient documentation and retrieve any required documentation.
Coordinate with the disability coordinator and team members in setting up the intervention plan and developing the beneficiary project to ensure a multidisciplinary approach in services planning and delivery
Provide immediate psychosocial response, if needed, to PwDs including psychosocial support visits; Psychological First Aid and Psychosocial need assessments.
Implement the psychosocial capacity building programs including selection, training and supervision

Required Qualifications and Skills:

University degree in Social Work, Psychology, Disability Studies, or related fields (or equivalent professional experience of at least 2 years).
Previous experience working with children and/or people with disabilities in a social, educational or protection context.
Proven knowledge of inclusive approaches (bio-psycho-social model, UNCRPD standards, peer counseling techniques and rehabilitation approach).
Experience in individual, family and group counseling sessions for PwDs
Experience related to psychosocial assessment.
Experience in community psycho-education and training.
High interpersonal skills, empathy, capacity for active listening and community engagement.
Strong commitment to learning new skills and willingness to be accompanied toward the achievement of new competencies.
Clear commitment to the project thematic.
Ability to communicate any technical or non-technical topic with clarity and to share any important project information with the team
Excellent writing skills and Computer skills (Excel, Word, Power Point)
Experience in referral mechanisms and familiarity with East Jerusalem’s local service network.
Fluency in English. Arabic as mother tongue.
Desirable:

Experience with peer counselling or participatory methodologies.
Previous collaboration with NGOs or community-based organizations (CBOs).
Background in project cycle management, especially logical frameworks
Driving licence
